Discover the untold story of three Black aerospace engineers in Los Angeles who played a key role in getting us to the moon, and the dramatic moments in the space race they personally experienced.

  • Nathaniel LeVert, who designed the engine propellant system for the second-stage rocket.

  • Shelby Jacobs, the creator of the camera system that captured the first-ever images of Earth’s curvature from space.

  • Charlie Cheathem, whose final approval ensured the production of thousands of mission-critical, custom-made parts.

These pioneering engineers overcame daily discrimination in the 1960s as the first Black aerospace professionals at their company. But, driven by their passion for space travel, they went on to make crucial contributions to the Apollo missions. It’s a must-listen for those fascinated by the space race, incorporating first-person accounts of what happened behind the scenes to get us to the moon.

The story takes us back to North American Aviation’s Downey facility, now the home of today’s space center, where these men made history.
